Following the European Statistics Code of Practice, four main criteria guide the selection of disability statistics for publication in the Nordic Statistics Database: relevance, cost effectiveness, comparability and timeliness. Relevance is based on recommendations from earlier studies and policy frameworks, in particular the 2021 report by the Nordic Welfare Centre, while cost effectiveness is ensured by restricting the selection to open data in the Eurostat database.
Accordingly, this study focuses on analysis of the comparability and timeliness of the disability statistics available in the Eurostat database in a Nordic context. The analysis identifies indicators that were available for all or most Nordic countries and for which statistics are released in a timely manner. The indicators span eight themes: disability prevalence, access to education and training, access to the labour market, income and living conditions, health status and determinants, access to information, leisure and social participation, and discrimination.
The study identifies 17 tables that can be recommended for publication in the Nordic Statistics Database. These are summarised in the list below by theme:
Disability prevalence: six tables
Access to education and training: four tables
Access to the labour market: four tables
Income and living conditions: one table
Health status and determinants: one table
Access to information: one table
The study also presents 11 indicators that do not meet the criteria for inclusion in the Nordic Statistics Database but are documented for future reference:
