This Policy Brief is the result of the project titled Missions-approach and Green Innovation Policy (GRINGO II) carried out on behalf of the Nordic Thematic Group for Green, Innovative and Resilient Regions (2021–2024). The project delved into the implementation and vertical co-ordination of mission-oriented innovation policies (MOIPs) in the Nordic context, with a particular focus on Sweden, Finland and Denmark, and selected regions within these countries. Emphasis is placed on approaches that provide directionality to innovation policy in alignment with broader policy frameworks to achieve the SDGs or Green Transition. Furthermore, we analyse how missions can be operationalised within Regional Innovation Systems (RIS).
