Building Resilience
Game handbook
This handbook is used for facilitating the Building Resilience game.
These instructions were developed for and used at Nordregio Forum 2025 during the workshop Building resilient communities: A hands-on workshop on psychological resilience.
Workshop materials
- 1-5 tables with a facilitator who reads instructions from the handbook. Ideally the tables should have 3-5 players. Each table represents a different Nordic location: island community, rural village, small town, suburb, and large city
- Play materials to represent various infrastructure items such as shops, schools, libraries, healthcare centres etc. The original workshop used Duplo and wooden blocks.
- Play pieces to represent playable characters. The original workshop used Playmobile dolls, but any object or material could be used to represent the player.
Workshop timeline (1 hour)
- Introduction to workshop: 5 minutes
- Gameplay: 40 minutes (approximate)
- Final discussion between groups: 15 minutes
